Highlights
Few destinations can rival York’s incredible history and character. This lovely city has been a cornerstone for important events in British history stretching back 2000 years, it has been a Roman settlement, a Norse capital, and the centre of Christianity in Northern England and the site of many decisive battles.
The winter months are the best time to visit York, the lamp-lit streets are beautifully atmospheric, bells ring in the pretty cobbled streets and a warm welcome (and often a roaring fire) awaits in the many old (sometimes haunted) pubs!
In February the city celebrates it’s Viking heritage with the annual Jorvik Viking Festival, during our visit we will experience a Viking encampment and armies of Vikings marching through the streets! To learn a little more about the Norse history of York, we will visit one of the city’s most popular attractions, the Jorvik Viking Centre which brings history to life in an entertaining way! Your ticket is included in the cost of the trip!
You will have plenty of free time over the two days to explore some of York’s other fine attractions – including the majestic York Minster, the Castle & Museum, the National Railway Museum and the ancient city walls.
We will stay overnight at the comfortable Burn Hall Hotel, just outside the city. Your stay and Sunday breakfast are included!
Departure/Drop off point
Outside Union Car Park, Harrington Road, South Kensington
From South Kensington Station, exit via the left hand stairs when you come through the ticket barriers. Turn right and cross at the traffic lights. Walk up Harrington Road, between the optician and the NatWest bank. You will pass the big grey Ampersand Hotel on your right.
