Highlights

With some of the finest scenery in the UK, the Lake District has long been a source of inspiration for poets and writers, notably Wordsworth, Ruskin and Beatrix Potter. On this overnight trip we will visit some of the district’s highlights – picture perfect villages, serene lakes and landscapes surrounded by jagged snow-capped peaks.

Included in your trip is an overnight stay in the three star Cumbria Grand Hotel, overlooking Morcambe Bay in Grange-Over-Sands. Dinner and breakfast at this stately hotel are included.

On arrival we will enjoy a ride on a steam train to Lakeside, followed by a gentle cruise on famous Lake Windermere. Then you will have some free time to explore the charms of Bowness, on the lake shore.

On the Sunday we will visit the enchanting village of Hawkshead, where you will have free time to explore the cobbled lanes and passageways between the picturesque whitewashed cottages and the historic pubs. Here you can visit the Beatrix Potter Gallery, discovering the work of the Victorian children’s author and artist who created Peter Rabbit and friends.

Then we will follow in the footsteps of Wordsworth in Grasmere, where you can visit Dove Cottage, the home that inspired him to compose some of his most well loved verses. See the daffodils for yourself! If you’re feeling energetic, you can walk the circuit of the pretty, circular lake.

Our last stop will be Castlerigg, an impressive stone circle surrounded by some of the highest peaks in the Lake District. We will take a short stroll down the country lanes in beautiful scenery to see the stones, before our comfortable coach delivers us back to London.
